Cosmetic Dentistry Sunshine Coast & Smile Makeovers

Cosmetic Dentistry Sunshine Coast refers to the enhancement of the smile purely for cosmetic reasons. It is not just about putting some ‘caps’ on your front teeth.

There is an art and science behind cosmetic dentistry and in particular behind creating your perfect smile. This requires meticulous attention to detail, careful planning, patience and a great level of operator skill.

Here at Sunshine Coast Smile Centre we have a very clear vision of what a beautiful smile is and how to achieve it.

A great deal of knowledge beyond general dental principals is required to create a cosmetic smile. If you have been looking for advice on treatments available to improve your smile then contact us and we can assess your situation and discuss your options.

Cosmetic Dentistry Smile Makeover

Cosmetic Dentistry Sunshine Coast love designing a beautiful smile makeover.  The thing about Cosmetic dentistry is it's about the whole face not just correcting the front teeth that you do not like. Factors that are taken into consideration include face shape, skin tone, age, gender and of course your preferences.

When assessing an existing smile or designing a new one there are a number of important areas that need to be carefully evaluated. These include (but are not limited to) the following:

FACIAL ANALYSIS

  • How are facial features proportioned and related to the smile?

LIP LINE AND GUM VISIBILITY

  • Lip Line refers the position of the lower border of the upper lip during smiling and thereby determines the display of tooth or gum at this hard and soft tissue interface.

ARCH CANT AND MIDLINE POSITION

  • Are the teeth positioned in line with the facial midline?
  • And are the teeth perpendicular to the facial midline or is there a cant to the left, or right?

Dentistry For Smile Line and Incisal Edges Cosmetic Dentristy

  • The Smile Line refers to an imaginary line along the incisal edges of the upper front teeth which should mimic the curvature of the upper border of the lower lip when smiling.

INCISAL DISPLAY

  • The amount of tooth displayed when the lips are parted and relaxed, determines if short centrals require lengthening at the gum end or the biting end

INCISAL EDGE POSITION

The proper biting edge position is determined by:

  • Incisal display, Phonetics.
  • Lip placement during formation of F and V sounds
  • Incisal and occlusal plane. The centrals are probably too short if they are above the plane of the back teeth. When viewed from the side they may be too long if they are below the plane of the back teeth.

Cosmetic Dentistry Maroochydore

It is important to get advice from a qualified Dentist on these procedures as you can read they are complex and getting it right is the goal. Cosmetic Dentistry Sunshine Coast and in Maroochydore is performed by a specialist in the field.

WIDTH TO LENGTH RATIO AND GOLDEN PROPORTION

  • The central incisors must be the dominant teeth in a smile and they must display pleasing proportions. They are the key to the smile.
  • A pleasing range for the length of central incisors is 10-11mm
  • Ideally the central incisors have an ideal width to length ratio, which for an aesthetically pleasing tooth is approximately 80%.
  • The principals of Golden Proportion suggest that there is an ideal mathematical ratio (1.6 : 1 : 0.6) between (the apparent rather than the actual) widths of the centrals, laterals and canines when they are viewed simultaneously from the front.

AXIAL INCLINATION

  • The upper teeth should angle slightly towards the midline and all teeth should be inclined in the same direction.

CONTACT POINTS/EMBRASURE DEPTH

  • Incisal embrasures are the little gaps visible between the biting ends of adjacent teeth and should widen going towards the back of the mouth.
  • Midline embrasure should be symmetrical, posteriorly embrasures should be  asymmetrical.

GINGIVAL SYMMETRY

  • Are the gums symmetrical, especially of the two central incisors?

BUCCAL CORRIDOR/GRADATION

  • Do the biting edges, shade and shape of the front teeth blend harmoniously with the back teeth?

TEETH COLOUR

  • What shade are the teeth now?
  • What shade do we want them to be?

OCCUSION

  • How can we fit the new smile into the bite so that it does not break down over time due to excessive biting forces?
