At Sunshine Coast Smile Centre we have completed over 890 Dental Crowns since opening in 2007.
As with all areas of restorative dentistry preparation and insertion of an ideal crown requires meticulous attention to detail and years of experience. Drs. Jon Kerr, Keith Doonan and Tony Caiafa have extensive Post Graduate training and experience in the provision of crowns.
Keith is an expert in advanced crown and bridgework having completed a Masters degree in Prosthodontics.
What Are Dental Crowns?
A porcelain or gold crown is the restoration of choice when a filling will not suffice. A crown surrounds the tooth to strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure.
Dental crowns may be recommended when a tooth has fractured or if there is a large amount of tooth that has already been replaced with a filling.
A porcelain crown looks and feels like a normal tooth and the colour and shape is matched to blend perfectly with your other existing teeth.
A gold crown may be of benefit for additional strength, these crowns are often recommended for back molar teeth.

How are Dental Crowns Fitted?
When proceeding with a crown two appointments are required. At the first appointment the tooth is prepared for the crown and an impression is also taken of the prepared tooth and adjacent teeth. This impression is sent to a local dental laboratory.
A temporary crown is then made and cemented into place.
At the second appointment the temporary crown is removed and the final crown is fitted, adjusted if required and finally cemented with a permanent cement.
