At Sunshine Coast Smile Centre our Dental Hygienists play an important role in promoting the health of our patient’s teeth, gums & overall wellbeing.

The Importance Of Dental Hygienists

Our dental hygienists play a crucial role in promoting the health of our patient’s teeth, gums and overall well being.

Many of our patients who have regular 6 month consults with either Suzanna or Felicia enjoy the benefits of good oral health.

Our dental hygienists are vital members of our team.

They help their patients improve and maintain optimum oral health by providing detailed and thorough cleaning and education.

So What Exactly Dental Hygienists Do?

Our Dental Hygienists in Cotton Tree complete a very detailed clean that takes up to an hour. During which time Suzanna or Felicia will do the following:

– Review your medical history.

– Assess your oral health and consult with one of our dentists (if needed).

– Advise on best ways to prevent gum disease.

– Remove tartar, plaque and staining from your teeth.

– Provide a fluoride treatment and a desensitising agent if you need one.

– Teach you how to practice good oral hygiene including brushing and flossing techniques.

Sunshine Coast Smile Centre’s dental hygienists use a combination of modern equipment and hand instruments to clean and polish your teeth. These include an ultrasonic scaler and prophyflex.

An ultrasonic scaler uses high vibrational energy and irrigation to remove calculus. To remove deposits in the best way possible this technique requires an experienced professional to do the work.

For effective stain removal an air-driven instrument called a prophyflex is used. The prophyflex sprays a mix of air, water and sodium-hydrogen carbonate (baking soda) for fast and pain-free removal of your stains.

We recommend to all our patients have their teeth cleaned by our hygienist every 6 months.
