At Sunshine Coast Smile Centre we are very lucky to have an excellent Dental Oral Health Therapist working as a vital part of our team.
In fact Lisa Spence is so good, she is practically a rock star!
A dual trained dental hygienist and dental therapist, Lisa is passionate about helping children maintain an optimum level of oral health care.
She does this through one simple premise.
Teaching children that the key to better oral health is to love their teeth – just as much as they love their favourite game or toy.
More crucially, Lisa also convinces them that they have the power to improve their own oral health through regular brushing and flossing.
“Now that the Child Dental Benefits Scheme has been saved it would be a good idea for you to make an appointment for your child to see Lisa”
What is a Dental Oral Health Therapist?
By definition, a Dental Oral Health Therapist provides high quality oral health care specifically for children and adolescents.
Their remit covers a number of practices across examination, treatment and also prevention.
This includes performing a range of clinical procedures like:
– Cleaning/scaling teeth
– Taking impressions
– Managing gum issues
– Simple extractions
– Applying fluoride
– Fissure Sealants
All Oral Health Therapists should possess qualifications in dental therapy and dental hygiene. In addition they may also have a range of skills in orthodontic duties as well.
Benefits of Seeing a Dental Oral Health Therapist
Dental Oral Health Therapists are specially focused on preventative dentistry.
If your child regularly visits an Oral Health Therapist this will go a long way to ensuring they do not suffer with problems from their teeth when they become adults.
Typically this includes things like periodontal disease, or gum disease as it is better known, which is the main cause of adult tooth loss.
In addition regular visits to an Oral Health Therapist could save you thousands of dollars in reparatory dental treatments further down the line.
As well of course as some major pain or discomfort.
Lisa is a registered oral health practitioner with almost 17 years of experience in the field of dentistry.
A mum of two boys, she has a kind and gentle nature that instantly puts children at ease.
Focused very much on the preventative side of dentistry, she is passionate about fostering positive attitudes to oral health.
Very adept at examining and diagnosing dental decay, Lisa is also very good at the treatment of gum disease in children.
She can also perform routine dental treatments on them too.
