8 Modern Dental Advances That Have Improved Our Patients Dental Experience

Over the last 20 years there have been some major dental advances that have totally changed the dental industry.

While many people on the Sunshine Coast have a fear of going to the dentist, what they don’t realise is that these Dental Advances have made a visit to the dentist much more pleasant.

Recent developments in dentistry have improved not only the quality of care we provide but also the materials we use.

Here is an overview of 8 of the best Dental Advances that have improved our patient’s experience.

1. Digital X-Rays

We use digital x-rays as standard. Not only are they quicker than traditional x-rays they also contain less radiation.

When a digital x-ray is taken it appears on our computer screen in seconds. The improved quality of the image allows us to make an accurate assessment of your teeth and enables the dentist to clearly explain what is shown.

2. Intraoral Camera

The intraoral camera allows our patients to see what the dentist sees.

The picture it takes allows us to show our patients what is happening in their mouth. By keeping a photographic record of suspect areas in the mouth we can carefully monitor your oral health changes over a period of time.

3. Numbing Gel

Many patients are nervous when it comes to dental injections. Applying a topical numbing gel on your gums prior takes the sting out of the injection. Many of our patients comment on how they didn’t feel the injection.

4. Invisalign

The Invisalign is alternative treatment to braces. Clear aligners are worn which straighten your teeth over time. Being made of a clear plastic means they can hardly be seen at all.

They are also more comfortable to wear than the traditional brackets and wires involved in braces.

Because the aligners can be removed you can continue to eat your favourite foods. Brushing and flossing can be completed as normal allowing you to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Invisalign is a modern approach to teeth straightening.

5. Kor Whitening Deep Bleaching

For patients wanting whiter teeth Kor Whitening Deep Bleaching is the most efficient teeth whitening system available.

Kor Whitening Deep Bleaching gives our patients great results and has excellent patient satisfaction with many patients experiencing low or no teeth sensitivity during the whitening process.

Unlike other teeth whitening systems Kor Whitening Deep Bleaching is the only recognised system in the world that will whiten tetracycline stained teeth. This was previously thought to be impossible.

Kor Whitening Deep Bleaching works by restoring your teeth’s ability to absorb oxygen. The oxygen from the whitening gel is then absorbed deep into the tooth.

6. Dental Implants

Dental implants are the most successful form of treatment to replace missing teeth.

A dental implant is a medical-grade titanium screw that is placed into the jawbone as a substitute for a missing tooth root. Titanium is a biocompatible material so it does not cause allergic reactions.

Implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth, several missing teeth or all missing teeth, while still giving the patient the feel and look of your natural teeth.

7. In-Chair Entertainment System

Long gone are the days when you just had to lie back and wait patiently for the dentist to finish their work. At Sunshine Coast Smile Centre our surgeries are equipped with entertainment systems.

A flat screen TV mounted on the ceiling allows you to watch your favourite shows or movie while having treatment. This also helps relax our patients and gets their minds off being at the dentist.

8. Knowledge

Perhaps the biggest of all the advances in dentistry is simply what we now know.

Our knowledge has increased and the techniques and technologies to help improve and maintain oral health continue to evolve. This knowledge is constantly being updated through our commitment to professional development training and continuing education.

If you are in pain or discomfort, our dentists have the expertise to diagnose and provide you with the highest standard of care.
