Sunshine Coast Smile Centre employs two professional dental hygienists that have over 15 combined years of experience.
Suzanna is our oral health therapist. Dual trained as both a dental hygienist and dental therapist she possesses up-to-date clinical knowledge obtained through both formal and also informal professional development.
Our dental hygienist Felicia joined the team at Sunshine Coast Smile Centre in 2019 and brings with her a wealth of experience in the dental field.
Both Suzanna and Felicia are valuable members of our team. Dental hygienists they play a crucial role in helping our patients achieve and also maintain optimum oral health through a combination of detailed and thorough cleaning and education.
What Our Professional Dental Hygienists Do?
We normally set aside an hour for your appointment with our dental hygienist so you will get a very detailed and thorough clean. At your hygiene appointment they will do the following:
- Review your medical history
- Assess your oral health and if necessary consult with one of our dentists
- Advise on ways that gum disease can be prevented or treated
- Remove tartar, plaque and staining from your teeth
- Provide a fluoride treatment and if necessary a desensitising agent
- Teach you how to practice good oral hygiene including brushing and flossing techniques
Sunshine Coast Smile Centre’s hygienists use a combination of modern equipment and hand instruments to clean and polish your teeth. These include an ultrasonic scaler and prophyflex.
An ultrasonic scaler uses high vibrational energy and irrigation to remove calculas. To remove deposits effectively this technique requires an experienced professional.
For effective stain removal an air-driven instrument called a prophyflex is used. The prophyflex sprays a combination of air and water as well as sodium-hydrogen carbonate (baking soda) for fast and pain-free removal of staining.
What You Should Do
We would normally recommend to all our patients that they have their teeth cleaned by our professional dental hygienists every 6 months.
At Sunshine Coast Smile Centre we are passionate about preventative dentistry. We also believe investing in regular dental exams and cleaning is the best way to keep your teeth and gums healthy for a lifetime too.
Many of our patients that have regular 6 monthly consults with either Suzanna and Felicia enjoy the benefits of good oral health.
